slack:work was a 280 square foot temporary pavilion, constructed of tube and clamp scaffold, fabric, and batting cage netting.
The fourteen foot tall installation coincided with Kent Ohio’s 33rd annual “Art in the Park” festival. After being on display for only 48 hours, this installation left no trace on the site, was fully disassembled in one hour, and did not produce any material waste - each component was rented, reused, or recycled. Made in collaboration with +Detail as a self commissioned project.

slack:work provided a gradient of postures for rest in sling chairs. The public engaged in somatic awareness when choosing to lay, lounge, sit, or perch. While Scaffolding is often a means to an end, we made the versatile system an end to a means.
The industrial materials were highly sensitive to the life around it. Gentle breezes and dappled light wandered across the fabric, and the swaying of children in the sling chairs vibrated through the steel pipes. It's glimmery canopy was slowly ornamented by autumn’s first red leaves - suspended in the air - just like you.
